Militiamen shot dead a resident of El Salam camp for the displaced near Nyala, capital of South Darfur, and injured another on Saturday. On Sunday, two women of the camp were gang-raped, and a man was seriously injured.<\/p>\n

Five militiamen opened fire on a vehicle carrying a number of displaced people from the area of Tokomaya to El Salam camp on Saturday evening, camp sheikh Mahjoub Tabaldiya told Radio Dabanga. “Essam Nureldin was killed instantly. Ahmed Saknorma, who was seriously injured, had to be taken to Nyala hospital for treatment.”<\/p>\n

He furthermore reported that in the area south of El Salam camp, a group of Janjaweed<\/em> on camels ambushed three women and a man, who were on their way to their work in Abga Rajil. “One of the women managed to flee. The other two were gang-raped. The man who accompanied them was severely beaten with rifle butts and whips. He was transferred to a hospital in critical condition.”<\/p>\n

The sheikh said that the security situation in the area is deteriorating. “Government-backed militiamen carrying weapons are also moving around in the camp again, terrifying the people.”<\/p>\n
