Many displaced in the Darfur camps suffer from the cold weather, and a shortage of food, medicines, and covers.  A stronger cold wave will sweep the country from Wednesday onwards.<\/p>\n

Sheikhs and elders of various camps for the displaced in North, West, and South Darfur, told Dabanga Sudan that in particular children and the elderly are hit by winter diseases, such as chest infections and heavy coughing.<\/p>\n

“It is extremely cold these days, and most of the displaced are living in homes made of plastic sheets, straw, and cardboard”.<\/p>\n

They appealed to the authorities and humanitarian organisations to provide the displaced with medicines, covers, and food.<\/p>\n

Cold wave<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sudanese Weather Forecast Authority has warned the population to take precautions, predicting an even stronger cold wave from Wednesday onwards, which will continue for about two weeks.<\/p>\n

The temperatures in the western region of the country will range between 3 and 8 degrees Celsius, in the north between 1 and 4 degrees, in central Sudan between 7 and 12, in the east between 10 and 13, and in the southern part of Sudan between 9 and 15 degrees.<\/p>\n
