The National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) has filed a complaint against the National Umma Party (NUP), led by El Sadig El Mahdi, at the Sudanese Political Parties Affairs Council. It requested from the Council to hold the NUP accountable for undermining the constitutional order, and instigating war against the state.<\/p>\n
The Political Parties Affairs Council addressed the NUP on Monday, requesting its reply to the complaint within one week.<\/p>\n
El Mahdi signed the Sudan Appeal, a political communiqué calling for regime change, together with leaders of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF, an alliance of the main rebel movements), the National Consensus Forces (NCF, a coalition of opposition parties, and the Civil Society Initiative in Addis Ababa on 3 December.<\/p>\n
NUP Secretary-General Sarah Nugdallah described the complaint to Dabanga as “a move without legs”, as “no one can condemn the Umma Party for signing a communiqué with the SRF, proposing a peaceful political solution for the crises of Sudan”.<\/p>\n
Faroug Abu Eisa, head of the NCF, and Dr Amin Mekki Madani, chairman of the civil society coalition, were detained by NISS officers in Khartoum after their arrival from the Ethiopian capital. They have been charged with undermining the constitutional order, and instigating war against the state too.<\/p>\n
El Mahdi has not returned to his home country since he signed the Paris Declaration, a precursor of the Sudan Appeal, with the SRF in the French capital on 8 August 2014.<\/p>\n
\n“No one can condemn the Umma Party for signing a communiqué, proposing a peaceful solution for the crises of Sudan”.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Nugdallah called via Dabanga upon the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) to “listen to the voice of reason and declare their readiness to enter a genuine dialogue with the Sudan Appeal signatories”.<\/p>\n
“We have to reach a consensus on a national constitutional conference, and the establishment of a transitional government that seeks to resolve all the crises of the country in a comprehensive manner,” she stated.<\/p>\n
She called the NISS’ complaint filed against the NUP leader personally last week, and the issuance of an arrest warrant, “hollow and baseless”.<\/p>\n
“It is the NCP regime that dishonoured its oath to protect the country, abused the Constitution, and destroyed the state of Sudan.”<\/p>\n
