The chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), Dr El Tijani Sese, has briefed Ambassador Tomas Ulicny, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Sudan, on the progress in the implementation of the Doha Document on Darfur Peace (DDPD).<\/p>\n
In a statement issued today, the EU Delegation to Sudan reports that Ambassador Ulicny highlighted to Sese “the importance of the commitment of all the signatory parties to push forward with the implementation of the agreement to convince more groups to join the process”, as well as “the growing need for assistance in Darfur”. The EU has been “assured that the Darfur Peace will be respected,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n
The Ambassador stressed that international aid depends on the improvement of the security and stability of the situation in the Darfur states. He said that the EU “follows the situation closely on the ground in Darfur”, calling for more access to the Darfuris in need.<\/p>\n
National Dialogue<\/strong><\/p>\n Today, the EU official visited Jalal El Digeir, Assistant to the President of the Republic, in Khartoum, to discuss the progress in the EU-Sudanese relations.<\/p>\n After the meeting, Ambassador Ulicny told reporters that he told El Digeir that the EU “follows with concern the difficulties facing the national dialogue process”, saying that the dialogue has “to be more inclusive, comprehensive and transparent”.<\/p>\n He added that the EU will “continue to closely coordinate and support the efforts of the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP) to bring all the parties around the table to reach a peace agreement”.<\/p>\n
