A British parliamentary delegation visited the Ardamata camp for the displaced near El Geneina, capital of West Darfur, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
One of the sheikhs of the camp told Radio Dabanga that the delegation was accompanied by representatives of humanitarian agencies working in the field of child nutrition and care for the elderly, the UN World Health Organisation, the World Food Programme, the Sudanese Red Crescent, and the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission.<\/p>\n
He said that the delegation spent five hours touring the camp. “The displaced explained to them how they are trying to survive amid the deteriorating security situation. They also told them about the shortage of clean drinking water, and the health and educational services at the camp.<\/p>\n
“The camp residents stressed to the visitors that the situation has not changed since they were forcibly displaced in 2003, when the war broke out,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Apart from requesting intervention to curb the rampant insecurity in the region, they asked for an increase of food rations and support concerning the production of food themselves, and a solution for those residents who lost their ration cards.”<\/p>\n
