The Association of Professors of the University of Khartoum have marked the anniversary of last year’s student demonstrations to renew their demand for justice for a student slain, allegedly by security agents.<\/p>\n

Abakar Musa died on the campus of the University of Khartoum during student demonstrations in March 2014. The Professors demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice "so as to redress justice and heal the feeling of injustice harboured by the family of the deceased". In a statement, the Association asked about the status of the investigation and interrogation of the offenders.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the professors appealed to the people of Sudan to boycott the General Election scheduled for next month.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for the group said that “elections under the current conditions will lead to more disasters for Sudan. The statement criticises “the ruling National Congress Party’s insistence on presidential and parliamentary election, in light of the terrible economic conditions, its policy in igniting wars, restrictions on media and public freedoms, the exploitation of the judiciary to prosecute honourable patriots, and closure of cultural and intellectual centres.”<\/p>\n
