An ambush launched by the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army-North against a Sudanese army force in Gissan, south of Ed Damazin in Blue Nile state, reportedly resulted in the killing of nine soldiers. Among the dead is a lieutenant, the rebels claimed.<\/p>\n
Arno Ngutulu Lodi, the spokesman of the SPLA-N, confirmed to Radio Dabanga that Lt. Ahmed Awad Yassin was killed in their attack on the moving army force on Wednesday. A number of vehicles of the Sudan Armed Forces were destroyed.<\/p>\n
The attack came within the aim of the Sudan Revolutionary Forces (SRF, an alliance of Sudan's main rebel movements) to stop the holding of the election next week, and in support of the boycott campaign Leave!.<\/p>\n
The Sudanese opposition parties allied in the National Consensus Forces and the National Umma Party launched the anti-election Leave! campaign in the first week of February, in which they intend to collect as many signatures as possible to oust incumbent President Omar Al Bashir. All public Leave! meetings, organised in various towns in the country, were suppressed by security officers.<\/p>\n
