The Committee of Solidarity with the Victims of the September Demonstrations held a sit-in in front of the National Human Rights Commission in Khartoum on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The protesters handed a memorandum to the Commission in which they demanded the release of 42 political detainees.<\/p>\n
Bakheet Ahmed Hamad, member of the Solidarity Committee, told Radio Dabanga that they organised the sit-in together with politicians, human rights activists, and relatives of the detainees, “to show the Sudanese and the world to what extent the Khartoum regime is lying, and gave its militias free hand to detain activists and citizens for expressing their opinion about the rigged election”.<\/p>\n
He said that security agents prevented them from raising their banners, and detained Sudanese Congress Party member Nureldin Salaheldin.<\/p>\n
Press conference<\/strong><\/p>\n Lawyer El Mutasim El Haj, another member of the Committee, reported that the Committee also held a press conference at the premises of the Sudanese Communist Party yesterday.<\/p>\n “We talked about the need to expose and resist the government’s detention campaign against political activists and human rights defenders during and after the election last week.”<\/p>\n The press conference also addressed the suffering of the relatives of demonstrators killed and wounded during the 2013 September protests against the lifting of fuel subsidies, who are still waiting for the perpetrators being brought to justice.<\/p>\n “The Solidarity Committee is currently preparing a memorandum to be submitted to the UN Security Council, about the regime’s role in undermining access to justice. No action has been taken at all after the families of the September victims filed complaints,” El Haj said.<\/p>\n
