The traders at the market of Kutum have lifted their strike on Tuesday, after the government of North Darfur affirmed it will provide protection to the market stores.<\/p>\n
After the abduction of a merchant for ransom early last week, following a series of robberies, the market traders decided to embark on a strike last Thursday.<\/p>\n
A committee of 20 notables from Kutum travelled to El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, to meet with the state government, and discuss solutions for the rampant insecurity in the locality.<\/p>\n
A youth activist told Radio Dabanga from Kutum that the committee, “which is in charge of following up the demands of the town’s population”, told the traders upon their return to lift the strike.<\/p>\n
“Army troops already arrived, to protect the stores. The mills and bakeries have resumed their work too, and the water provision is back to normal either,” he said. “Life has returned back to normal.”<\/p>\n
