A teacher reported the rape of eleven girls in a basic stage school in Khartoum. Six of the cases resulted in pregnancies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an investigative report published by El Jareeda <\/em>newspaper this week, a teacher revealed that the girls study at Lubaba Basic School in Square II of El Nasr district in Khartoum.<\/p>\n

He said that there is an increase in rape of minors in the capital’s peripheral districts, particularly in Baraka, El Haj Yousif, Mayo, Mandela, Gabousho, and El Nasr.<\/p>\n

The teacher claimed that the crimes that are reported to the police represent less than five percent of the rape cases. He pointed to the “absence of the police from those areas, where most of [the residents] are displaced people from the war zones of Darfur, the Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile”.<\/p>\n

The chairman of the National Union of Mentally Disabled People, Dr. Yasir Mohamed Mousa, revealed the occurrence of more than 3,500 sexual abuses against children in 2014 and early 2015.<\/p>\n

Any victim of sexual violence has to report the incident to the police by filling out a Form 8. Obtaining this form used to be obligatory for victims before being allowed treatment in a hospital, until this law was revised in 2005. Three years ago, an international women's initiative reported<\/a> confusion among Sudanese citizens, police and medics about the revised law. Many doctors still refused treating victims without a Form 8, in fear of reprisals by the police.<\/p>\n
