The Sudan\u202c Humanitarian Response Plan <\/strong>(HRP) <\/strong>for <\/strong>this year<\/strong> <\/strong><\/strong>aims to provide humanitarian assistance to <\/strong>5.4 <\/strong>million people, which <\/strong>cons<\/strong>t<\/strong>itutes<\/strong> <\/strong>1<\/strong>3 percent <\/strong>of the total population in the country. <\/strong>As of 24 August, humanitarian organisations in Sudan are seeking additional funds to solve the funding gap.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sudan is facing two major humanitarian crises simultaneously. A total of 3.1 million displaced people do not have (adequate) access to basic services and livelihood opportunities. About 4.2 million people across Sudan are affected by food insecurity and malnutrition. Some 550,000 children in Sudan are suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition.<\/p>\n

The HRP aims to provide food and livelihood interventions to 4.2 <\/strong>million people and assist two million malnourished children below the age of five years, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan reported last week.<\/p>\n

Humanitarian organisations in Sudan are seeking more than $1 billion this year to fund projects, delivered by 112 partners to meet the needs of these people, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator a.i. in Sudan, El Mostafa Benlamlih stated at the launch of the Sudan 2015 Humanitarian Response Plan<\/a> in Khartoum on 5 May<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As of 24 August, the total amount received by donors for the HRP 2015 is $400.8, OCHA reported, pointing to a funding gap of 61 percent.<\/p>\n

Developed in consultation with the Sudanese government, the UN and Partners’ 2015 Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan is a tool used to map where humanitarian projects can best respond to people’s priority needs in the country, and to allocate funding accordingly. <\/p>\n
