The dean of the University of Khartoum’s Engineering Faculty received a cheque of SDG500,000 ($81,500) from the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) on Sunday, for the renovation and maintenance of the faculty’s workshops and laboratories.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The financial contribution is part of the NISS Social Partnership Programme, the pro-government Sudan Vision Daily<\/em> electronic newspaper reported today.<\/p>\n

The deputy director of the NISS Guidance Department Deputy, Maj. Gen. Dukhri El Zaman Omar, handed the cheque to Prof. Ali Abdelrahman Rabah. He affirmed that the security apparatus will continue supporting “the educational sector and other vital sectors” in Sudan.<\/p>\n

In June, the two main football clubs, El Mireikh and El Hilal, each received a cheque of <\/strong>SDG1 million ($166,000) from the NISS.<\/p>\n

The Sudanese government reportedly spends about one percent of its annual budget on education and health<\/a>, while annual expenses on the army and the security apparatus amount to more than 60 percent<\/a>.<\/p>\n
