An attacker was shot dead, a visitor killed, and four others sustained bullet wounds in an attack in the Criminal Court of Nyala, capital of South Darfur.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Col. Madani Mohamed Madani, the Nyala head of police reported at a press conference this morning that the attack was triggered by a conflict over a house that an army sergeant had built on the land of a government employee.<\/p>\n

The court ruled in favour of the employee, and stated that the building was to be removed next Thursday.<\/p>\n

When the army officer heard that the government employee was at court this Sunday morning to follow-up the procedure of the removal of the house, he hurried to the court.<\/p>\n

“The sergeant then tried to shoot the employee, who managed to escape to the court's upper floor,” the police chief said. “The assailant then started to fire haphazardly around him, which resulted in the death of a visitor, and the wounding of four others, including three policemen. In response, court guards and policemen intervened and shot him dead.”<\/p>\n

Witnesses said that a joint army, security, and police force arrived to evacuate the court building.<\/p>\n
