The Zakat Chamber in East Darfur has announced the launch of health and advocacy activities for nomads at the end of this month, in order to provide the poor among them with better services.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The secretary of the Chamber for Muslim alms, Ibrahim Mohamed Yousuf, said: “In a tent in Ed Daein, there will be concomitant therapeutic activities, including [the provision of, RD] 500 eye surgeries, and medical checkups for between 2,000 – 3,000 patients.<\/p>\n

“It also provides free vaccinations for over 80,000 people.” He did not mention the types of vaccines.<\/p>\n

Yousuf told journalists on Sunday that the Zakat Chamber mainly targets poor nomads with the programme, that will run from 22 to 29 January in coordination with several state authorities. The Chamber also aims to activate Zakat for livestock in East Darfur.<\/p>\n

Qatari Deputy Prime-Minister Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud stated on 8 December last year that Qatar reserved $50 million for the development<\/a> of health and educational services for nomads in Darfur. Attending the opening of a service complex in North Darfur, Al Mahmoud said that his country planned to fund the construction of water wells in 11 Darfur localities, as well as 10 model villages at a total cost of $70 million.<\/p>\n
