About 700 families that fled the aerial bombardments on villages in the western part of Jebel Marra reportedly arrived at Nierteti in Central Darfur.<\/strong><\/p>\n

About 700 families arrived at Tur, multiple sources reported to Radio Dabanga. Some 400 newly displaced women and children sought shelter in Guldo in Jebel Marra.<\/p>\n

People living in the northern part of Jebel Marra fled the fighting and continuous bombing and shelling in the direction of Tawila in North Darfur. About 70 families arrived at Tawila on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

An activist told Radio Dabanga from Tawila that many of the newly displaced, “in particular the children and the elderly” suffer from chest infections and diarrhoea.<\/p>\n

Assistance<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Central Darfur, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and partners have prepared a contingency plan to provide assistance for up to 70,000 people, should the needs arise.<\/p>\n

OCHA reports in its bulletin this week<\/a> that current relief stocks can cover up to 80 percent of food, 98 percent of nutrition, and 97 percent of water and sanitation needs of the contingency plan. However, there are no emergency shelter and household supplies available. Aid organisations will need to replenish stocks to cover these possible needs.<\/p>\n
