A group of armed men robbed a number of displaced at Forika camp in Gireida in South Darfur on Monday. In Central Darfur, a commercial vehicle was ambushed on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A <\/strong>Forika camp elder told Radio Dabanga that 15 gunmen arrived at the camp on Monday evening. “They left their camels outside the camp. They then raided five homes and <\/strong>robbed the residents of their money and mobiles,” he said.<\/p>\n

“As they left, they fired a barrage of bullets into the air which terrified the displaced. The janjaweed also shot at the water tank in Gireida, causing serious leakage.<\/p>\n

“On Tuesday morning the residents of the area did not have any water. We lodged a complaint at the Gireida police station, to no avail.”<\/p>\n

The camp elder added that the attack “is part of the implementation of the government’s plan to dismantle the camps in Darfur”.<\/p>\n

In Central Darfur, a group of gunmen robbed the passengers of a commercial vehicle on the Tur-Nierteti road on Sunday afternoon. A total of SDG3,000 ($490) and five mobile phones were stolen.<\/p>\n

One of the passengers added that the market of Nierteti is still semi-closed. “Most of the people in the area are confined to their homes in fear of more bombardments and attacks by the many militiamen wreaking havoc.”<\/p>\n
