A medical team representing several organisations was prevented from practicing their daily work in Zamzam camp for displaced people, near El Fasher city, on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Members of the security apparatus prevented the team of Sudanese medics from entering the camp and treating the displaced people.<\/p>\n

A camp coordinator reported to Radio Dabanga that security agents stationed at the gate of El Fasher denied access to the medics, who work for the State Ministry of Health, on Monday morning. “They said the doctors did not have permission from the authorities.<\/p>\n

“Their team has been entering the camp to practice its work for two years, without being asked for any entry or exit permits.”<\/p>\n

He said that the medical team consists of doctors, nurses, medical assistants, and other medical workers who are active in four health centres in Zamzam. The centres receive more than 1,000 patients on a daily basis, the coordinator said.<\/p>\n

According to camp elders, Zamzam holds about 125,500 people who have been displaced by conflict in Darfur.<\/p>\n
