Many of the traders at the Grand Market of Nyala, capital of South Darfur, closed their shops on Monday and gathered in front of the office of the Commissioner of Nyala in protest against the trial and fines imposed on some traders by the public order court because of expired goods.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The head of the state wholesalers, Osman Yassin, said the authorities’ campaign led by quality control and health and specifications found a number of traders possessing expired goods.<\/p>\n

He said that 13 traders were taken to court. “Seven of them were tried and subjected to a SDG10,000 ($1,600), while the value of the goods concerned does exceed SDG4,000 ($700) or SDG5,000 ($800).<\/p>\n

El Gedaref<\/strong><\/p>\n

The shop owners of El Faw city in El Gedaref state whose shops were removed by the authorities in February demanded compensation by giving them temporary lands for their goods until they receive shops.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday a trader told Radio Dabanga that authorities removed 120 shops in February in order to regulate the market.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that they asked them to pay a large amount for any shop, but that traders cannot pay the required amount.<\/p>\n

He said that the market removed by the authorities is a centre for more than 32 villages and El Faw City.<\/p>\n
