Dr Jibril Ibrahim, the head of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), has described the consultations with the joint mediation for Darfur peace during the past two days in the Qatari capital of Doha as “positive, transparent, and frank”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an interview with Radio Dabanga, Ibrahim said the meeting which concluded in the early hours of Wednesday morning agreed on some procedural issues such as the mediation structure, the platform partners and others.<\/p>\n

The statement issued by the mediation of the head of Unamid called on the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Minawi (SLM-MM) to sign the roadmap reached by the African mediation (AUHIP), and asked them to accept the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) as an essential framework for the peace process in Darfur.<\/p>\n

Dr Ibrahim explained to Radio Dabanga that the parties did not reach an agreement on the DDPD and how to deal with it.<\/p>\n

He said as the two movements told the Doha meeting that they cannot accept the DDPD as basis for negotiation while the government is not ready to amend it.<\/p>\n

He stressed, however, that the parties agreed on continuing the consultations until people find a common ground from which to move forward.<\/p>\n
