A woman was killed in an attack on the market of Mellit in North Darfur. Sudanese soldiers at the market came under fire from unknown assailants.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Locality commissioner Abdelkarim Yousef, told Radio Dabanga that armed men arrived at the market on Thursday and opened fire on a several soldiers. “They came from three directions at midnight. The soldiers and the attackers exchanged gunfire.<\/p>\n

During the attack, a RPG fell on a house, killing Nada Girein Maki (18 years). Two of her sisters, Yousra 14 and Fatima 16 years old, sustained injuries, whom were taken to El Fasher hospital. The incident took place in El Marabe neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

A witness told Radio Dabanga that the militiamen attacked the market at 12.30pm in an attempt to steal money and goods. “They drove two Land Cruisers while others arrived on foot.”<\/p>\n

Several of the attackers were killed and wounded, according to the witness. Their comrades managed to take the bodies and wounded with them after which they withdrew from Mellit. They fled into a western direction, the witness said.<\/p>\n

El Fasher<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the state capital of North Darfur, five militiamen attacked merchant Fathi Bulad early Friday morning. He was beaten inside his shop in Khor Saial neighbourhood in eastern part of El Fasher, which they ransacked before fleeing.<\/p>\n
