The rainy season in North Darfur has heralded new outbreaks of malaria, typhoid, and jaundice malaria among the displaced.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A coordinator of Sortony camp in Kabkabiya locality called on the authorities to intervene urgently by providing medicines and heath care, as there have already been several deaths. “The situation must be contained.”<\/p>\n

In the state capital of El Fasher, a number of citizens complained of poor health conditions caused by the deterioration in medical services, health care, medication, and lack of basic life-saving drugs in hospitals.<\/p>\n

45 medical staff including doctors, interns, and specialists, have been on strike in El Fasher since 28 July in protest against monies due to the hospital employees, and the deterioration of medical services. The state government has dismissed them, and evicted them from hospital premises<\/p>\n

One caller pointed out that “we are facing a major humanitarian disaster with the autumn rains if the health authorities do not intervene to remedy the situation”.<\/p>\n

The Sudanese Central Committee of Doctors condemned and denounced the decision by the North Dafur government and the El Fasher hospital management for “separating the 45 doctors from public and privilege,” calling it “an unjust chapter”.<\/p>\n

According to a statement by the hospital management, the motivation for dismissing them was ”doctors’ disregard for the lives of citizens, and creating a health at risk”.<\/p>\n
