Aid organisations continue to respond to the needs of the nearly 53,000 displaced people from Jebel Marra who sought refuge in North Darfur.<\/strong><\/p>\n

About 25,000 people took refuge in Tawila, 22,000 in Sortony, 3,000 in Kabkabiya town, and 3,000 in Shadad camp near Shangil Tobaya. They all fled armed conflict in the Jebel Marra mountain range this year.<\/p>\n

In Sortony in Kabkabiya locality, where 22,000 displaced have taken refuge, Oxfam and the UN Children’s Agency (Unicef) trucked in 198,000 litres of water over the past week. The displaced people themselves supplement this assistance with water from nearby boreholes, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan reported in its weekly bulletin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oxfam has carried out hygiene awareness sessions reaching 8,000 people. The health situation is stable with Médecins Sans Frontières-Spain (MSF-E) and the Sudanese Anhar providing services at three clinics, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Unicef.<\/p>\n

Humanitarian actors continue to assess needs and provide assistance and basic services across all sectors to thousands of displaced, returnees, and other communities affected by the Jebel Marra hostilities in parts of Central, North and South Darfur. However, they have been unable to assess and respond fully to the needs of all people, OCHA states.<\/p>\n

The UN is extremely concerned about the plight of these civilians and humanitarian partners continue to engage with government actors to advocate for access to assess needs and assist people in inaccessible areas.  <\/p>\n
