Students clashed at the Holy Koran University in Khartoum, which led to the injury of eight students and the arrest of three others, on Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A student of the Darfur Students Association told Radio Dabanga that the group held an event about the exemption of tuition fees for Darfuri university students in Sudan. The exemption is stipulated in the Doha Document for Peace (DDPD) covering the conflict in Darfur.<\/p>\n

“After the start of the event, the security apparatus student members of the ruling National Congress Party attacked us with live ammunition. Eight Darfuri students were injured, including Awad Babiker, Adam Suleiman, Adam, Mohamad Adam, Hussein Mohammed Hussein, Nasr Ishag Hussein and Adam Mohammed Adam.”<\/p>\n

He reported that the security agenst arrested Omer Adam Ismail, who is the deputy head of the students' association at the Holy Koran Universty. Two members of the executive office of the association were also detained.<\/p>\n

Riot police arrived at the scene, firing tear gas to disperse the students, the witness said.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Darfuri students at the Islamic University of Omdurman and the Khartoum University protested also against the tuition fees they are forced to pay. A referendum in Darfur, that was also stipulated in the DDPD, which was held last April, effectively abolished the the stipulations of the DDPD.<\/p>\n
