The Sudanese government has pre-emptively flooded a schoolyard in Omdurman in an attempt to prevent a vigil by opposition forces, civil society organisations, women, youth, and students, scheduled for today.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The vigil, entitled ‘Salvation of the Homeland’ is scheduled to begin at the yard of Omdurman El Ahliya School at 3 pm today, with the participation of political party leaders. The vigil plans to march to the opposition Umma National Party (NUP) headquarters in Omdurman, where the heads of political parties will address the crowd.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Radio Dabanga, NUP secretary-general Sara Nugdallah said that the declaration of ‘Salvation of the Homeland’ to be revealed today is based on six points of removing the regime which has imposed forced colonisation on the people, establishing a new system of a transitional government through free and fair elections with the aim of guaranteeing human rights and extending this freedom, as well as concluding a comprehensive peace agreement for all the components of the Sudanese people and eliminating the injustice that has occurred in the various war zones.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that the declaration also focused on the search for ways to implement alternative policies that ensure the reconstruction of the economic, political and social sectors and working to lift the hurdles of living and oppression which resulted in the policies of this regime, this as well as re-formulation of the country's foreign policies in its African, Arab and international dimension.<\/p>\n

Sudanese Communist Party<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mohamed Mukhtar El Khateeb, the secretary-general of the Sudanese Communist Party, announced that the vigil at Omdurman El Ahliya on Wednesday will be followed by a document announcing the unity of the opposition forces for mobilising the mass movement to get rid of the Al Bashir regime.<\/p>\n

He said in an interview with Radio Dabanga that Thursday will also witness launching of the commemoration of the martyr Mahmoud Taha.<\/p>\n

He added that the political and civil opposition forces have adopted the three events as a starting point for change.<\/p>\n
