{"id":176687,"date":"2018-03-11T08:54:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-11T08:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dabangasudan.preview.websight.nl\/two-more-die-of-suspected-cholera-in-central-darfur\/"},"modified":"2018-03-11T08:54:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-11T08:54:00","slug":"two-more-die-of-suspected-cholera-in-central-darfur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/two-more-die-of-suspected-cholera-in-central-darfur","title":{"rendered":"Two more die of suspected cholera in Central Darfur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Two people died of &lsquo;watery diarrhoea&rsquo; and five new infection cases were recorded in Central Darfur&rsquo;s Nierteti locality on Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;One patient died in the isolation centre of Kuweila village today,&rdquo; a medical volunteer reported to Radio Dabanga on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>He said that 15 people were being treated in the centre, after two new cases were admitted on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The source added that another person died of suspected cholera in the isolation unit of Mara village. &ldquo;The unit received one new case on Friday, bringing the total of patients to five.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The makeshift isolation centre in Korifal village received one new case on Friday. &ldquo;Four people are now being treated there.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The isolation ward in the hospital of Nierteti was treating six cases on Friday, following the admission of one more patient that day.<\/p>\n<p>According to cases reported to Radio Dabanga, the death toll in Nierteti this year amounts to at least 24: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/two-suspected-cholera-deaths-in-darfur-s-jebel-marra\">18 <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/two-suspected-cholera-deaths-in-darfur-s-jebel-marra\">patients<\/a> died in February, and six people in this month so far.<\/p>\n<p>&lsquo;Acute watery diarrhoea&rsquo; is the term the Sudanese authorities and several international organisations use for the disease of which the spread turned into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/darfur-displaced-call-on-sudan-govt-to-declare-cholera-epidemic\">epidemic proportions last year<\/a>. Using pathology standards of the World Health Organization, Sudanese doctors and epidemiologists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/darfur-displaced-call-on-sudan-govt-to-declare-cholera-epidemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the time<\/a> independently confirmed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/doctors-confirm-diarrhoea-outbreak-in-sudan-is-cholera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the cases of &lsquo;watery diarrhoea&rsquo;
