♦ Video of new Jebel Marra displaced, still without aid<\/strong><\/p>\n

June 19 – 2018 JEBEL MARRA<\/em> The United States, the United Kingdom and Norway have condemned the ongoing clashes between the SLM-AW rebels and Sudan’s army and militias which have ravaged parts of Jebel Marra in the last four months.<\/div>\n

In early April, activists told Radio Dabanga that an estimated 50,000 people fled the fighting and militia attacks on their villages. Now newly displaced people in Jebel Marra are still living in caves and valleys in the area without any humanitarian aid. Sources in the south-eastern part of the mountainous area filmed newly displaced people<\/a> living in the open. “The janjaweed plundered our villages and burned them to ashes,” a young displaced woman said.<\/div>\n

An activist in the area told Radio Dabanga that the authorities have refused to grant permits to international relief organisations to intervene and provide humanitarian assistance. Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States said in a press statement on Tuesday: “It is unacceptable that the government of Sudan has repeatedly prevented the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (Unamid) and humanitarian actors from accessing the areas of conflict and displaced populations.”<\/div>\n
