The acting head of the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (Unisfa) inspected the work on the Abyei Hospital last week.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Gebre Wolzdegu, visited the hospital in Abyei town on Thursday. The building is renovated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with funds from the USAID.<\/p>\n

The acting head of IOM-Abyei, Mohamed Waseem, said that the renovation of the hospital was at the request of the local community. While IOM is the implementer of the project, Médecins Sans Frontières\/Doctors Without Borders<\/em> and other stakeholders are discussing on how to run the hospital and ensure its sustainability.<\/p>\n

The 200-bed hospital which costs an estimated $ 500,000 comprises an operation theatre, a pharmacy, several wards including a women’s ward, an administration block and doctors’ offices, Unisfa said in a press statement on Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

General Wolzdegu also visited a town-hall building constructed under the mission’s Quick Impact Projects. He advised the community to make judicious use of the hall for their meetings in search for peace and co-existence.<\/p>\n

The aim of the visit was to assess available health and social facilities for the people in the area with the view to identify and address gaps with other stakeholders like UN agencies, funds and programmes.<\/p>\n
