The United Nations has acknowledged a 92 per cent reduction in the number of displaced people in Sudan in 2018, citing ‘the calm in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile'.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Sunday, UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Gwi-Yeop Son said at a joint UN-government multi-year workshop for humanitarian response assessment plan for 2018: “The year 2018 has seen only about 25,000 people displaced, meaning that the number of displaced has decreased by 92 per cent”.<\/p>\n

She explained that the number of returnees to their villages has increased reaching more than 300.000 this year.<\/p>\n

Humanitarian aid<\/strong><\/p>\n

Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed Adam said that Sudan has exceeded many of the previous stages in humanitarian work and has moved towards greater security and stability.<\/p>\n

Serious work is required to move from emergency assistance to construction and reconstruction, he said.<\/p>\n

As previously reported by Radio Dabanga, last week, the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) announced it approved a UN initiative to deliver humanitarian aid to people living in areas controlled by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) in the Two Areas (South Kordofan and Blue Nile states).<\/p>\n

The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan has welcomed the decision by the Sudanese government to approve a UN’s initiative to provide assistance to the most vulnerable people in rebel-controlled areas in South Kordofan and Blue Nile.<\/p>\n

“I welcome and commend this decision by the government of Sudan to provide access to the most vulnerable people in need,” UN Humanitarian Coordinator Gwi-Yeop Son said in a press statement on Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

President meets West Darfur Governor<\/strong><\/p>\n

The official Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reports today that President Omer Al-Bashir, received the Wali of West Darfur, Hussein Yassin Hamad, at the Republican Palace Monday and reviewed progress of the voluntary repatriation operations in the state.<\/p>\n

President Al-Bashir affirmed the Presidency support to the development projects in West Darfur.<\/p>\n

In a press statement, the Wali said that West Darfur is witnessing remarkable security and stability, a matter which was reflected positively on the voluntary repatriation project and expansion of the cultivated area.<\/p>\n

Hamad indicated that he briefed the President on the implementation of development and services projects in the state.<\/p>\n
