♦ Tribe, skin colour requested in new security form for journalists<\/strong><\/p>\n

November 13 – 2018 KHARTOUM<\/em> Newspaper editors in Sudan have been obliged to fill in forms for the security apparatus which include details such as tribe, skin colour, and political affiliation. The security service (NISS) has demanded that newspaper editors fill in a form of personal data and information including tribe, skin colour, military activity, a sketch of their houses and the closest methods of access to them, as of Sunday. The distribution of the form among newspaper editors is not new in Sudan, but it now demands more sensitive information about the editors and their partners. Journalist Ashraf Ibrahim, editor-in-chief of El Jareeda <\/em>newspaper: “I do not know why this form was designed in this way. This information has bad connotations.”<\/p>\n

The 6-page security form comes one and a half week after newspaper editors-in-chief signed the restrictive Media Charter of Honour at the request of the NISS.<\/p>\n

♦ US to consider removing Sudan from terrorism sponsor list<\/strong><\/p>\n

November 13 – 2018 KHARTOUM \/ WASHINGTON <\/em>US Charge d’Affaires, Steven Koutsis, held a press conference at the embassy about the new phase which the USA and Sudan have entered, in order for the country to be removed from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list.<\/p>\n

The US State Department recently announced its commitment to start a process with Sudan to rescind the country's designation as a sponsor of terrorism, in the event the “relevant statutory criteria have been met”. Today, Koutsis elaborated <\/a>on the 'Phase II' framework for the bilateral cooperation in Khartoum. He said that it gives them the opportunity to improve “a number of key areas of mutual concern, including the protection of religious freedom and other human rights”.<\/p>\n

Last week, a US presidential notice announced the continuation of the national emergency with respect to Sudan, in spite of a recent visit of a Sudanese delegation to Washington. President Donald Trump explains why despite recent positive developments, the crisis constituted by the actions and policies of the Government of Sudan has not been resolved.<\/p>\n
