The Secretary-General of the National Umma Party, Sarah Nugdallah, has announced a National Freedom Charter “to be signed by all Sudanese political, civic, student, and faction leaders as the historic declaration of the people’s legitimate demands”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nugdallah said in a statement late on Monday that the Charter consists of eight points, notably “the removal of Al Bashir regime, which imposed an internal occupation of the country, and the establishment of a new system to establish the state of the homeland in the place of the state of electoral empowerment”.<\/p>\n

The Charter also guarantees human rights, the extension of public freedoms and the formation of a transitional Government of National Unity that will run the country until a free general election is held.<\/p>\n

The text also stresses the convening of a National Constitutional Conference tasked with rewriting the country’s Constitution, and appealed to the Sudanese regular forces “to refrain from oppressing the people who peacefully express their demands, and to align their legitimate demands”.<\/p>\n

Declaration of Freedom and Change<\/strong><\/p>\n

The call for signing the National Freedom Charter came a day after the Sudanese Professionals Association announced the Declaration of Freedom and Change through a video message<\/a> by young doctor Mohamed Naji.<\/p>\n

The main opposition groups including the National Consensus Forces alliance, the Sudan Call coalition of opposition parties, rebel groups, and civil society organisations, and the Unionist Gathering all signed the declaration on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The Declaration calls on Al Bashir to step down, the removal of his regime, the establishment of a transitional government of four years to restore peace and the Rule of Law in the country, followed by general elections.<\/p>\n
