A number of Western countries witnessed demonstrations in response to the call of Sudanese Professionals Association to go to the streets demanding the ousting of Al Bashir and his regime.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Demonstrators in France, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, the UK, and Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Nebraska in the USA held the Sudanese government responsible for killing protesters and demanded the overthrow of the regime yesterday. Mass demonstrations were held by Sudanese diaspora and others condemning the killing of the demonstrators and the mass detentions carried out by the regime in Sudan.<\/p>\n

This follows a protest held outside the White House<\/a> in Washington, USA organised by Sudanese Civil Society Organisations which demanded change and for Al Bashir to step down.<\/p>\n

Demonstrators in Switzerland, at the United Nations Square in Geneva submitted a memorandum to the UN Human Rights Commission demanding accountability and monitoring of the regime to put an end to the killings and detentions of demonstrators by security agents and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.<\/p>\n

On December 28, UN experts expressed alarm at Sudan’s escalating violence and reports of protesters killed during recent large-scale demonstrations. The UN Special Rapporteur, Clement Nyaletsossi Voule, said “the government should respond to legitimate grievances of the Sudanese people,” speaking from Geneva.<\/p>\n

Further protests planned<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, a peaceful march in Omdurman will take place with the Professionals Association and other groups that signed the Declaration of Freedom and Change to demand the immediate withdrawal of Al Bashir and his regime from power.<\/p>\n

The peaceful march is scheduled to go to the National Assembly to hand in a memorandum at the time when demonstrations will enter their third week.<\/p>\n
