T<\/strong>he leaders of the <\/strong>Sudan Call (a coalition of Sudanese armed movements, opposition parties, and civil society organisations) <\/strong>began five days of <\/strong>meetings<\/strong> in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Monday. <\/strong>El Sadig El Mahdi, President of the National <\/strong>Umma party (NUP)<\/strong> and the Sudan Call, <\/strong>apologised for non-<\/strong>participation and assigned a deputy <\/strong>to attend the meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Arko Minawi, the secretary-general of the Sudan Call said: “Today’s meeting discusses the political developments in Sudan, the difficulties facing the transfer of power to civilian rule and how to link the transitional arrangements to the achievement of comprehensive peace”.<\/p>\n

He said the meeting will also discuss ways to strengthen and develop the organisational performance of Sudan Call as well as ways to strengthen the Alliance for Freedom and Change (AFC).<\/p>\n

He explained that the leaders of the Sudan Call will meet on the sidelines with representatives of the Austrian Foreign Ministry and an envoy from the African Union.<\/p>\n

Regarding the apology of the leader El Mahdi from the occasion, the director of the special office of El Sadig El Mahdi, Ibrahim Ali, said in an explanatory statement on Monday that El Mahdi decided not to travel he because of the sensitivity of the current circumstances of the country. He said that  he currently needed to be in Sudan to follow the critical developments, and interact with them.<\/p>\n

Ibrahim pointed out that El Mahdi deputised his representative at the meeting to represent him for the NUP. The series of meetings will conclude on Saturday.<\/p>\n
