Sudan’s ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) has referred <\/strong>98 senior <\/strong>officers of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS)<\/strong> to retirement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The move is the latest in accordance with a decision regarding the restructuring of the security apparatus. Sources said that eight officers at the rank of Lieutenant General, 35 Brigadier Generals, 21 Major Generals, 15 Colonels, and 19 other officers of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or below, have been placed on retirement.<\/p>\n

In April, the TMC pledged to restructure the NISS and referred a number of senior officers for retirement, including Salah Gosh, the director of NISS.<\/p>\n

NISS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sudan’s Public Prosecutors have called for the dismissal of the current director of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Lt Gen Abubakir Dembalab, after agents prevented police from executing an arrest and search warrant <\/a>at the home of former NISS chief Salah Abdallah (aka Gosh) on May 20.<\/p>\n

The Public Prosecutors Club said a police force headed by a Brigadier under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, were attempting to execute a warrant issued by the prosecution, to arrest Gosh on charges of suspicious illegal ownership of wealth, and to search his home.<\/p>\n

Resigned<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gosh resigned as director-general of the NISS in April<\/a>, shortly after the overthrow of the Al Bashir regime, and has since been under house arrest.<\/p>\n

TMC has pledged to bring members of the former regime to justice, and investigate charges against them. Leading Sudanese lawyers have initiated legal proceedings against the leaders of the former regime<\/a>, on charges of orchestrating the military coup in 1989.<\/p>\n
