The number of people killed in militia attacks in Deleig<\/a> in Central Darfur this week has risen to at least 11. The wounded numbered 18 on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sheikh Ismail Nouro, head of the Northern Camp for displaced people in Deleig, told Radio Dabanga on Tuesday that the number of villagers killed during the attack by paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) government militia on the area of Deleig the day before rose to 10.<\/p>\n

He said that the RSF attacked eight villages on Monday evening. Four people were killed and six others were wounded. All livestock was stolen.<\/p>\n

He explained that the situation returned to calm yesterday in Deleig area after the arrival of a security force from Zalingei.<\/p>\n

The villages attacked in the area of Deleig on Monday night in were Tengu, Aru, Orde, Bargi, Baile, Kisma, Romaliya and Kakouli.<\/p>\n

As previously reported by Radio Dabanga, El Shafee Abdallah, coordinator of the Central Darfur camps for the displaced, told Radio Dabanga that a group of government-backed militiamen riding in vehicles, camels and horses repeatedly attacked the villages in Deleig administrative unit, north of Garsila, on Sunday and Monday.<\/p>\n

Sudan Doctors Central Committee<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sudan Doctors Central Committee reported in a statement on Tuesday that doctors in Deleig received 11 dead and 20 wounded, some of them were transferred in critical condition to Zalingei hospital for emergency surgery.<\/p>\n

The local doctors said that nine people were shot dead by what the statement called the Janjaweed. The cause of the death of the other two people was not verified.<\/p>\n

The statement added: “Every day on which the military junta and its criminal leaders and the Janjaweed militiamen continue at any level of government in our country, means a direct threat to the lives of the Sudanese in all parts of the country. There is no other way to stop the distribution of free death among our peaceful people and save lives, then the establishment of a country of freedom, peace and justice, in which the values of citizenship for all Sudanese are fostered.”<\/p>\n
