The Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) have completed the selection of their candidates for the Sovereign Council that will govern Sudan during the coming three-year interim period.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a statement on Friday, the Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA), the driving force behind the uprising, said it will announce the names of the nominees in a press conference to be held in front of the army command in Khartoum at 7pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The venue has been chosen in commemoration of the victims of the violent dispersal of the sit-in on June 3.<\/p>\n

The SPA called on the Sudanese public, members of diplomatic missions, journalists, and correspondents to attend and cover the press conference.<\/p>\n

In early August, the ruling Transitional Military Council and the FFC agreed on a 250-page Constitutional Declaration<\/a>, stipulating that a joint civil-military Sovereign Council will govern the country for 39 months after which general elections will be held. The Council will be headed<\/a> by the military during the first 21 months, followed by a civilian president for the next 18 months.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow, the ruling TMC will be dissolved<\/a> and the names of the 11 members of the Sovereign Council that will govern Sudan during the interim period will be announced. The new Prime Minister will be announced on Tuesday. The composition of the Cabinet will be finalised on August 28.<\/p>\n

According to TMC member Lt Gen Salah Abdelkhalig, the chairmanship of the Sovereign Council for the first part of the interim period is to be to be assumed by Lt Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan. Lt Gen Mohamed Hamdan ‘Hemeti’, the commander-in-chief of the Rapid Support Forces, Sudan’s main militia, will be his deputy.<\/p>\n

Abdelkhalig said in an interview with Sputnik<\/em> on Friday, that the other three members will be appointed by El Burhan during the formation ceremony of the Sovereign Council on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The FFC reportedly nominated Mohamed El Taayshi, Hasan Sheikh Idris, Mohamed El Faki, Siddig Tawir, and Fadwa Abdelrahman, representing the people of Darfur, Kordofan, eastern Sudan, central Sudan, and northern Sudan.<\/p>\n
