Massive rallies were organised by the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC ) in Khartoum and the states on Thursday to demand an independent judiciary and to speed up the  appointment of the Chief Justice and Attorney General.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thousands of demonstrators moved from Jakson Station, the stadium, and the Abujinzir square in Khartoum towards the presidential palace. The demonstrators chanted slogans demanding justice for the protestors killed and wounded.<\/p>\n

The roads leading to the presidential palace were sealed of by police using barbed wire to prevent demonstrators from reaching the palace. However, the protestors managed to reach the courtyard of the palace and stayed there for hours.<\/p>\n

The appointment of Abdelgadir Mohamed Ahmed as Chief Justice and Mohamed El Hafiz as Attorney General was blocked by the junta<\/a> three weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Memorandum<\/strong><\/p>\n

The demonstrators handed over a memorandum to Sovereign Council member Siddig Tawir, who promised to meet their demands.<\/p>\n

Mass rallies and vigils also took place in Port Sudan, Kassala, El Gedaref, Wad Madani, Ed Duweim in the White Nile state and Singa in Sennar state on Thursday.<\/p>\n

In Kassala demonstrators handed over a memorandum to the acting state governor, demanding the appointment of the Chief Justice and the Attorney General. In Port Sudan, activists staged a protest in front of the court building and carried banners demanding the same.<\/p>\n

Democratic Alliance of Lawyers <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Democratic Alliance of Lawyers called on the Sovereign Council to exercise its powers as stipulated in the Constitutional Document to appoint the Chief Justice and the Attorney General.<\/p>\n

In a statement, it considered delaying the appointment of the Chief Justice and Attorney General “a failure to justice and to the revolution”.<\/p>\n

The statement also says that the current situation of the judiciary and the public prosecution prevents the necessary reform of laws and the judiciary itself.<\/p>\n

Forces for Freedom and Change<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) called in a statement on the Sovereign Council to establish a judiciary, headed by the proposed Chief Justice and the Attorney General, that can start a new era based on equality before the law.<\/p>\n

The FFC affirmed it would continue to organise mass demonstrations to achieve the goals of the revolution and to get justice for the peaceful protestors killed last year.<\/p>\n

Industrial areas<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Thursday morning, neighbourhood committees of Kober and Omdurman Industrial Areas organised a vigil, drawing attention to local taxes, the deteriorating environment of the area and paid but irregular services.<\/p>\n

The workers of Khartoum state held a protest against labour laws and delayed dues.<\/p>\n
