♦ Tens of thousands demonstrate in Sudan for justice<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

September 20 – 2019 KHARTOUM Tens of thousands of demonstrators held rallies yesterday in Khartoum and several other cities, including Wad Madani and Port Sudan, under the slogan "Accountability and put the members of the former regime on trial".<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The demonstrators chanted slogans including "O Council, no immunity, gallows or cell". The demonstrators also carried pictures of leading members of the former regime, demanding they will be put on trial.<\/p>\n

The demonstrators submitted a memorandum to the Minister of Justice Nasreldin Abdelbari demanding the appointment of Abdelgadir Mohamed Ahmed as Chief Justice and Mohamed El Hafiz as Attorney General. They also demanded the formation of a commission of inquiry into the massacre at the break-up of the sit-in in front of the army command on June 3. The moment that this commission should be formed, as agreed upon in the Constitutional Document, is coming near, the memorandum says.<\/p>\n

Following the protests, Sudanese Prime minister, Abdallah Hamdouk, formed an investigation commission into the dismantling of the sit-in in front of the Military Head Quarters on September 22.<\/p>\n

Seven members were chosen to be part of the comission, including a Supreme Court Judge, representatives of the respective Ministries of Justice, Defence, and Interior Affairs, an independent individual, and two independent lawyers.<\/p>\n

♦ Demonstrators at sit-in at gold mining company demand dismissal of governor<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

September 20 – 2019 TALODI \/ KADEER \/ KALOGI The sit-in of Talodi and Kalogi residents in South Kordofan entered its 17th day yesterday. The protestors demand that the gold exploration companies stop working, as instructed by the South Kordofan governor last week. The use of cyanide by the mining companies has been proven harmful to humans, animals and the environment.<\/p>\n

The protesters have said that they will not disband their sit-in until the gold exploration companies are dismantled and removed from the areas of Talodi, Kalogi, Abu Jubeiha, and Terter once and for all.<\/p>\n

Talodi, Kadeer and Kalogi witnessed mass demonstrations on Wednesday, demanding the dismissal of the acting state governor because of his incapability and his identification with the remnants and leaders of the former regime. According to the demonstrators this has resulted in not protecting the people against the toxic materials that the mining companies use when extracting gold from ore.<\/p>\n

On September 11, the acting governor ordered that all gold mining companies must stop working and that all their machineries and buildings will be seized until further notice. So far, this has not been implemented.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
