The Sovereign Council, that flew to Nyala yesterday, called for an increase of the South Darfur's share of fuel and flour because of the growing population. It also stressed the importance of a strategic stockpile to respond to crises. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sovereing Council met Wali (Governor) Maj Gen Hashim Khalid of South Darfur, the state government and its security committee, a large number of native administrations members, the Political Parties Coordination Council, the movements that signed the peace agreement in South Darfur, the Chamber of Commerce and civil society leaders.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, which was chaired by the head of the Sovereign Council Lt Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan, security, fuel and flour shortages, and the events that took place in Nyala in the past two days<\/a> were discussed.<\/p>\n

Closing of the borders<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the meeting the Sovereign Council decided to close the borders between Sudan, Libya and Central Africa, not only for security reasons, but also to prevent further smuggling of vehicles to Sudan. That smuggling has cost Sudan duties that should have been paid at the customs offices and caused foreign currencies to leave the country.<\/p>\n

The meeting also addressed the issue of the smuggled ‘boko haram vehicles’ that are already within Sudan. The government had already decided that these vehicles will be legalised by the National Customs Administration<\/a>. Any vehicle that will enter Sudan illegally from now on will be confiscated.<\/p>\n
