♦  Friends of Sudan agree on financing 2020 budget and debt relief<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

November 1 – 2019 KHARTOUM An agreement has been reached between Khartoum and the Friends of Sudan about debts relief and the country’s 2020 budget.<\/p>\n

The Sudanese Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Ibrahim El Badawi, attended the fourth meeting of the Friends of Sudan in Washington on October 21<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Upon his return on Thursday, the minister told reporters at Khartoum International Airport, that international monetary institutions agreed on a roadmap for the rehabilitation of Sudan, to begin with an economic programme to stabilise the macro-economy.<\/p>\n

Sudan’s 2020 National Budget will be financed by the Friends of Sudan, he reported. The budget will be based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, “with a focus on education, health, and social services”.<\/p>\n

In addition, Khartoum will not have to pay any of its huge debts next year, but will engage in negotiations on debt relief with the World Bank and the African Development Bank scheduled to begin March.<\/p>\n

A donor conference is planned to take place in April next year.<\/p><\/div>\n

♦  A-G: ‘Perpetrators of human rights violations will be held to account’<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n

October 31 – 2019 KHARTOUM Sudan’s newly appointed attorney general has vowed to try perpetrators of serious human rights violations since former President Omar al Bashir came into power by a military coup in 1989. The Public Prosecution Office is investigating 10 complaints concerning high-level corruption.<\/p>\n

At a press conference in Khartoum on October 30, Attorney General Tajelsir El Hibir stated that the perpetrators of the killings of peaceful protesters in September-October 2013, as well as the violent dismantling of the sit-in in front of the army command in Khartoum on June 3, will be held to account<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Public Prosecution is concerned with any human rights violations that occurred during the previous period and the punishment of the perpetrators of these crimes, he said.<\/p>\n

The Prosecution of Illegally Owned Wealth has filed more than 50 complaints against leaders of the former regime and their relatives.<\/p>\n

The most prominent figures of the former regime charged by the prosecution are Ali Osman Taha, Nafi Ali Nafi, Abdelbasit Hamza, and Ahmed Haroun (who is also wanted by the International Criminal Court).<\/p>\n
