♦  Assets of disbanded NCP ‘estimated at 1.5 trillion Sudanese Pounds’<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

December 1 – 2019 KHARTOUM According to a preliminary survey, the property and assets of the National Congress Party (NCP) that ruled Sudan during the deposed Al Bashir regime are estimated to be roughly 1.5 trillion Pounds. Some of te party's assets have ‘disappeared under mysterious circumstances’.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Sudan’s Sovereign Council and Cabinet decided to disband the NCP<\/a> and to repeal the infamous Public Order laws<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Justice Minister Nasreldin Abdelbari explained that the passed law<\/a> not only stipulates the annulment of the former ruling NCP, but also the confiscation of its property and freezing of its assets.<\/p>\n

El Tayar<\/em> newspaper reported that according to a preliminary survey, the property and assets of the NCP are estimated to be roughly 1.5 trillion Pounds in Sudanese banks.<\/p>\n

Since the downfall of the Al Bashir regime, a huge amount of money has reportedly been withdrawn and transferred to officials and supporters of the former regime. Assets, including thousands of cars and computers, belonging to institutions, companies, and student unions associated with the NCP have disappeared under mysterious circumstances.<\/p>\n

A poll conducted by Al Jazeera live<\/em> on Facebook<\/em> shows that 84 per cent<\/a> of the respondents support the dismantling of the former regime.<\/div>\n

♦  Darfur rebels demand update on peace talks process<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n

November 27 – 2019 JUBA \/ KHARTOUM The Darfur armed movements that entered negotiations with the Sudanese government in Juba in mid-October have officially requested the South Sudanese mediation team to clarify the delay of the second round of peace talks.<\/p>\n

On October 22, after a week of peace talks between Khartoum and the main Sudanese rebel groups  movements, the mediators announced that the negotiations were postponed<\/a> to November 21, to give the parties time for consultations.<\/p>\n

Yet, a day before the talks would resume, Juba again delayed<\/a> the second round, to December 10.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Tuesday, the Justice and Equality Movement, the Sudan Liberation Movement faction led by Minni Minawi, the Sudan Liberation Movement-Transitional Council, and the Sudan Liberation Forces Alliance called on the mediators to explain the reasons behind the second postponement.<\/p>\n

They also requested an update on the decisions of the AU Peace and Security Council, herein supported by the UN Security Council, concerning the mandate<\/a> of the South Sudanese mediation team and the venue for the peace talks.<\/p>\n
