A compact weekly digest of Dabanga Sudan's news highlights from Darfur and Sudan<\/em><\/p>\n

♦ Heroic voices of Radio Dabanga honoured at Sudan National Museum<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

January 23 – 2020 KHARTOUM 23 eminent voices from Darfur and other parts of Sudan that have made Radio Dabanga the trademark for trustworthy news in Sudan, were honoured by Radio Dabanga editor-in-chief Kamal El Sadig at a celebration event at the National Museum in Khartoum on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Amongst those that shape the popular image of Dabanga are Hussein Abusharati, Spokesperson for the Displaced and Refugees in Darfur, and Adam Abdelrasoul, who is the voice of West Jebel Marra who reported about the hardship of citizens under the bombing campaigns of the Al Bashir Regime.<\/p>\n

The crowd also cheered for the blind Sheikh Matar Younis from Zalingei, Amouna Gamredin from El Gireida in South Darfur, Aziza Abdallah Babiker from Kabkabiya, North Darfur, and student spokesperson Saadiya Abukadok, the female voices of the radio who suffered severe hardship due to arrest and persecution as Radio Dabanga correspondents.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the transitional government of Sudan, Member of the Sovereign Council, Siddig Tawir confirmed that Radio Dabanga really was the voice for the voiceless in the conflict areas under the previous government.<\/p>\n

♦ Sudan removes all restrictions on aid organisations<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

January 26 – 2020 KHARTOUM Sudan has called upon international humanitarian aid organisations, including those expelled during the deposed Al Bashir regime, to return and carry out their humanitarian operations without restrictions.<\/div>\n

In a press statement on Friday, the Sudan Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Abbas Fadlallah confirmed that the commission issued a decision that “Sudan has opened the door wide for the return of all international humanitarian organisations that were expelled during the era of the former regime”. He pledged to remove all restrictions that may hinder the movements of the organisations.<\/p>\n

Abbas confirmed that that all the expelled NGOs have permission to operate in all regions of Sudan, including areas under the control of rebel movements.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that “NGOs are the right hand of the government in providing services and filling the gaps in humanitarian aids and other services”.<\/p>\n

Abbas said that some of the organisations that were expelled by the deposed regime have returned and registered again. “We feel sorry for the way the former regime treated these NGOs,” he said. He praised MSF (doctors without borders) and its fundamental role in providing services to the South Sudanese refugees and in the host community in the White Nile state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
