The German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Dr Gerd Müller (CDR\/CSU) has announced that Germany is willing to support the Sudanese transitional government. He also confirmed that his ministry will support Sudan with an estimated budget of €80 million in the field of energy and infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During a meeting with Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok in Khartoum on Thursday, Bundestag member Müller confirmed that German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will be visiting Khartoum in two weeks. “During his visit, the German head of state will announce the German aid to the Sudanese transitional government,” Müller said.<\/p>\n

He explained that that the German president will be accompanied by a number of investors and experts in his upcoming visit.<\/p>\n

In a statement after his meeting Müller, PM Hamdok praised the readiness and willingness of the German government to support Sudan. He expressed his aspiration to enhance the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields. “We want to benefit from the German experience in the field of electricity and energy as well as vocational education that can help with creating job opportunities for young people,” he added.<\/p>\n

Minister Müller also paid a visit to a vocational training centre for power plants established in Sudan by the German technology company Siemens.<\/p>\n

Hamdok to meet Merkel<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel will Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok on Friday, to discuss political and economic developments in Sudan. The German Foreign Ministry expects that the German chancellor will be enlightened about the efforts of the transitional government to bring peace, her efforts and plans to revive the Sudanese economy, in addition to discussing the expected German role. Hamdok will be in Germany to attend a conference.<\/p>\n

A statement from the office of the Federal President of Germany<\/a> last week confirms that Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will visit t Kenya and Sudan from February 23 to 28, 2020.<\/p>\n

The statement says that “in Sudan, President Steinmeier hopes to get an impression of the political and social new beginning after decades of dictatorship. It will be the first visit of a German Federal President to Sudan since 1985, and is intended as is a sign of solidarity and support for the country’s further transformation.”<\/p>\n

President Steinmeier will hold political talks with Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok and the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Abdelfattah El Burhan. He will also be briefed on current developments and expectations of the future when he meets with Sudanese civil society, the official statement concludes.<\/p>\n
