On Friday, Sudan’s Attorney General, Taj El Sir El Hibir, received the final report of <\/strong>the investigative committee<\/strong><\/a> regarding the <\/strong>violence at the end of 2019<\/strong><\/a> at Kerending camp that killed more than 80 people and displaced at least 47,000<\/a> in El Geneina in West Darfur.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a press conference on Friday, the committee explained that the report submitted 37 criminal suits filed under Sudanese criminal law including various crimes such as homicide, robbery, premeditated injury, attempted murder, and other charges. The report also said that arrest warrants against 69 alleged perpetrators have been issued. “Some 32 out of 69 suspected people have been arrested<\/a>, while there is an ongoing effort to arrest the rest,” the report stated.<\/p>\n

The report rendered some recommendations recording the reinforcement of the rule of law and state authority in West Darfur. “These recommendations will be handed over to the Sovereign Council for further deliberations,” the committee said.<\/p>\n

The final report consists of 102 pages, eight folders containing appendices, and statistical digital report regarding damages as well as the report about the scene of the crimes.<\/p>\n

On March 3, Radio Dabanga reported<\/a> that the acting governor of West Darfur said that the independent investigative committee regarding the recent violence of El Geneina has confirmed the arrest of 15 suspects so far. The committee is still pursuing the other alleged perpetrators.<\/p>\n
