Economist: State of Economic Emergency ‘arbitrary’ measure<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

September 12 – 2020 KHARTOUM On Thursday, the acting Finance Minister, Dr Hiba Ahmed, announced a State of Economic Emergency and the formation of emergency courts and prosecutors, and deployment of joint forces to protect the Sudanese economy.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Economist and director of the Red Sea University, Prof Hasan Bashir, described to Radio Dabanga the measures announced by the government as “important and necessary” yesterday. He said “they are long overdue” and their success is dependent on the ability of the regular forces to fight smuggling.<\/p>\n

He expects that next week will be decisive for the Sudanese pound. Either the exchange rate will begin to rise, or it will collapse. “Sabotaging the monetary system is one of the biggest problems facing the transitional period,” he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Peace agreement to be signed on October 2<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

September 7 – 2020 KHARTOUM \/ JUBA \/ ZALINGEI The peace agreement between the Sudanese government and the members of the Sudan Revolutionary Front rebel alliance parties will be signed in the South Sudanese capital of Juba on October 2. Displaced in Central Darfur protested against the peace accord yesterday.<\/p>\n

The comprehensive peace agreement was signed in initials in Juba on August 31. Two days later, a joint committee of the two negotiating parties began preparing a matrix and time schedules for the implementation of the accord.<\/p>\n

The head of the South Sudanese mediation team, Tut Galuak, said at a press conference in Juba on Sunday that the official signing of the peace agreement is scheduled to take place on October 2. He added that he expects the committees to complete the implementation matrix today.<\/p>\n

In Central Darfur, hundreds of people in the Hamidiya and Tur Kalami camps for the displaced near the state capital Zalingei demonstrated against the Juba peace agreement.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Rebel group delegation to arrive in Khartoum<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n

September 11 – 2020 KHARTOUM A high-level delegation of the Sudan Revolutionary Front rebel alliance will arrive in Sudan. The member groups of the SRF signed a peace agreement with the Sudanese government in the South Sudanese capital Juba on August 31.

Women sign declaration for ‘strategic feminist coalition’<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

September 10 – 2020 JUBA Women members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North faction under the leadership of Abdelaziz El Hilu and the Sudanese Women’s Alliance signed a joint political declaration in the South Sudan capital Juba, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

102 dead in floods<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n

September 9 – 2020 KHARTOUM \/ WAD MADANI \/ BAU \/ EL TADAMON \/ EL RAHAD \/ EL GUREISHA \/ TOKAR The unprecedented floods and torrential rains that swept the country for five weeks has left at least 102 people dead and 46 injured.<\/p>\n

Inflation threatens sales in Khartoum shops<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n

September 9 – 2020 KHARTOUM The price of the Dollar on the parallel market of Khartoum reached SDG240 yesterday. Many shops in Khartoum have reportedly stopped selling products for fear of making a loss due to the continuous rise in forex rates.

September 8 – 2020 KHARTOUM The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced the registration of 30 new COVID-19 cases, including one death, bringing the total cumulative number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 13,437, including 833 deaths.

Nuba welcome rebel-govt declaration<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n
September 7 – 2020 KAUDA \/ AJUONG THOK \/ ADDIS ABABA \/ KHARTOUM Nuba people in South Kordofan and in South Sudan refugee camps have widely welcomed the Declaration of Principles, signed by Hamdok and rebel leader Abdelaziz El Hilu in Addis Ababa on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Residence of PM flooded by Nile<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n

September 7 – 2020 KHARTOUM \/ SINGA \/ SHENDI \/ TOKAR A part of the residence of Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok, located on the banks of the Nile in Khartoum North, has been flooded. The levels of the Nile in Khartoum rose to a record height of 17.66 meters yesterday.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
