Finance Minister Heba Mohamed included all provisions of the Juba Peace Agreement in Sudan’s 2021 National Budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Finance Minister Heba Mohamed told the Peace Partners (the rebel movements that signed the Juba Peace Agreement<\/a>) and the Forces for Freedom and Change during a meeting yesterday that she included all provisions of the Juba Peace Agreement in Sudan’s 2021 budget. During the meeting the entire 2021 budget was discussed, especially the economic details of implementing the peace agreement, financing peace funds, and the competent commissions to follow-up.<\/p>\n

The Minister stressed that fulfilling the peace requirements, as stipulated in the Juba Peace Agreement, is one of the main priorities of the budget. Improving the livelihood of the people throughout the country is another priority.<\/p>\n

All the basic requirements for the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement have been agreed upon during the meeting. It was also decided to establish a High Mechanism for Monitoring the Agreement, which will include the signatories to the agreement, the regional and international guarantors, and other international organisations and parties.  <\/p>\n

Sovereign Council member Mohamed El Taayshi said in a press statement that the High Mechanism for Monitoring the Agreement will settle disputes that might appear during the implementation phase. He stated that the committee will have the right to request reports from the mechanisms tasked with the implementation of the peace agreement.<\/p>\n

The meeting also approved the formation of a joint committee of representatives from the government and the Sudan Revolutionary Front rebel alliance to follow up the implementation of the peace agreement in the Two Areas (South Kordofan and Blue Nile state). This committee will work with the Sudanese Peace Commission and all state institutions. A similar follow-up committee was agreed upon for Darfur. According to El Taayshi, these two committees will be the key mechanisms in carrying out the implementation of the peace agreement.<\/p>\n

Two days ago, Radio Dabanga reported about the leaked 2021 National Budget<\/a>, which showed that the Sudanese government plans to increase the budget for the military and security forces. The budgets for health care and education will decrease.<\/p>\n
