In an interview with Radio Dabanga on Monday, El Sheikh said the solution to curb the dominance of the NISS is to completely dismantle the apparatus. On Sunday morning, the NISS prevented El Sheikh from traveling from Sudan to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and confiscated his passport. He explained that his planned trip was to renew his UAE residence permit, and to undergo a medical check-up. El Sheikh added that “the situation in Sudan is now threatened by blatant NISS intervention in the lives of citizens, and their dominance on all other bodies. The security apparatus is above the Constitution, the law, and the police. All other apparatuses are completely manipulated at the hands of the NISS.” Ibrahim El Sheikh blamed the ongoing war in Sudan and the economic crisis that’s affecting the country. “There is no crisis in the country's laws but there is a crisis in the tyrannical, oppressive approach and mentality that brutalises people and intervenes in every major or minor affair in their lives.” He acknowledged that the NISS has succeeded in protecting the regime for 25 years. “This makes the regime believe that this apparatus is a protector. They also convince the Presidency and all ruling bodies that they are protecting them and prolonging their rule. However the high cost of protecting the regime leads to murder, torture, detention, and arrests.” File photo: Ibrahim El Sheikh (left) pictured with a supporter after his release from custody in September (Radio Dabanga) Related: Opposition boycotts Sudan dialogue meeting, elections (3 November 2014)Sudan’s opposition parties sign Teiba Charter (26 October 2014)‘Positive developments in Sudan dialogue’: Al Bashir (24 October 2014)Another Umma Party member barred from leaving Sudan (10 October 2014)Sudanese Congress Party head released (15 September 2014)
https://www.dabangasudan.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/cropped-dabanga-logo-zondernaam-512x512-1.png
