The heavy rain destroyed a large number of shelters in the Abu Shouk, Zamzam, and Abuja camps for the displaced in El Fasher locality, and blocked the road linking the camps with El Fasher city. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a resident of Abu Shouk camp said that more than 450 homes collapsed in the camp. “More than 2,000 families in the three camps have become homeless.” He appealed to the local authorities and humanitarian organisations operating in North Darfur to accelerate the provision of support for the affected and help drain the water that has isolated the three camps. El Fasher city “The torrents and ensuing floods have transformed El Fasher city into one large pool of water”, residents of the capital reported to Radio Dabanga, amid fears of more floods to come, as has been witnessed in other towns, such as Um Keddada. “El Fasher Lake overflowed, and the Grand Market has been inundated.” “The floods that swept through El Fasher caused severe damage to El Fasher hospital, El Fasher Teaching Hospital, the Saudi hospital, and the Legislative Council of North Darfur State. Dozens of houses were destroyed. The authorities are now trying to list them,” one of the affected residents said. Dozens of homes also collapsed in other areas in North Darfur.
