One of the striking butchers reported to Radio Dabanga that about 90 percent of the butchers joined the strike. \u201cOnly a few butchers opened their shops because they were not notified. \u201cThe fees for slaughtering a lamb increased to SDG36 ($6),\u201d he said. \u201cThe slaughtering fees for a cow increased by SDG5 to SDG75 ($12), in addition to similar increases in the fees for sheep and camels.\u201d The butcher explained that in El Obeid about 75 head of cattle are slaughtered each day, besides ten camels and 50 sheep.
