Citizens of South Darfur complain about the difficulty in getting fuel because of the security measures imposed by the authorities in Nyala on gas stations. Problems started after the authorities imposed severe security restrictions, including the decision to have only 1 or 2 operating gas stations a day out of more than 20 available stations. Further restrictions include a maximum of 2 gallons per person per day. One citizen told Radio Dabanga that they stand in long lines from the early morning to late in the afternoon to buy a gallon or two of petrol (gasoline). The citizen also mentioned that this was the newest/latest paralysis in the movement of people and goods within the city and other towns in the region. A short trip by riksha is now 5 SDG and the price of fuel has increased to 140 SDG per gallon on the countryside.
