On Sunday, representatives of the Sudanese Ministry of International Cooperation and the German government signed in Khartoum a €6 million agreement concerning reconstruction projects in Darfur.

The projects that will be implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) are part of the German support for Sudan, amounting to a total of €82 million in the coming period, the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reported yesterday.

Minister of International Cooperation Idris Suleiman said after the signing ceremony that the agreement concerns support to the erection of polytechnic schools, by providing technical equipment and vocational training to students, in addition to the deployment of professionals who will coordinate the implementation of the projects in North and West Darfur.

The German Ambassador to Sudan, Ulrich Klöckner, emphasised the importance of vocational training projects for Sudan's western region. Darfur is moving from war to peace, and we are moving from humanitarian aid to development aid, he said.
